Lauren Wilhelm Exhibition “Solipsism” 27th February 2021

My new exhibition Solipsism reflects my time working in the year 2020 – a year which looks to herald the era of the ‘new normal’.  As the outside world is increasingly unsure and truths seem in dispute, the idea of solipsism comes to mind –  the theory that the self is the only thing that can be known and verified. My works reflect my preoccupation with the inner world and our frailty – humans and animals alike. It serves as a form of ‘vanitas’ painting for me – reminding oneself that life’s brevity can make problems seem smaller, simple connections more beautiful and time more precious.
