About Calum Donaldson
Calum Donaldson is a glass artist from the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. A third-generation glass worker, he learnt the craft at his family’s studio, Gordon Studio Glassblowers in Red Hill, from the age of 18. He went on to complete the JamFactory Associate Program in 2023 and attended a summer workshop at the Pilchuck Glass School.
Calum is interested in movement within glass and the way it takes shape throughout the process, and functional glassware is where his interest lies. Murrine is the process of stretching lengths of glass, chopping them into tiles and fusing the pieces together to create all sorts of forms. The way each tile is distorted and warped against the others during hot-working drives the final effect of his murrine work.
