Australian Contemporary Artist Katrina Read is best known for her “Prosperity Series” of extraordinarily life-like Koi fishes swimming in pebble bottomed rivers, or suspended in the rippling swirl of the deep black waters. The use of light is particularly strong, making use within the artwork but most profoundly with external light play, both environmental and natural. The play of light on the Koi fish and rippling water becomes more real after the final layer of high gloss varnish is applied over the paintings making them glisten as they would naturally in the sunlight.
Katrina Read has been painting for as long as she remembers and is now a full-time artist after a career in the advertising industry. She has gained success as a serious artist in a short few years, her works doubling in value each year for the past 3 years.
Katrina Read is represented in galleries in WA, NSW, and Singapore and has exhibited in New York, Canada and the Caribbean. Katrina has recently moved from her NSW home to live and work in Singapore.
