Her superb eye for colour and skilful blending produces paintings that are suggestive of the natural world but which allow space for the viewer to create their own meaning.

Enjoy Getting to Know Liv Vardy …

When did you first feel the desire to be artistic and realize you had talent?

During high school I began drawing portraits. Following the pull of the creative again in my early twenties I used cheap paint and experimented with paint rollers to create art for our walls. As my youngest of 3 children has become more independent I’ve found myself with more time and began painted with brushes several years ago.

Where did you learn your art?

I’ve learnt by experimentng over the last few years. I feel the more time I give art the more I learn and evolve in style and technique.

What inspires you most?

Nature is a strong inspiration of mine. I feel like so many elements have a beautiful flow to them. I particularly love to spend time at the beach watching the clouds and water move.

What message are you sending to the viewer of your art?

Beauty, calm, rest. I hope for viewers of my work to sense the emotion of the painting, always positive. Something to enjoy.

Describe your studio…

I work from home, often using our dining room table as I prefer to work with my canvas laying flat as opposed to on an easel. It is a light and bright room with quite a minimal feel.

Describe your typical day of creating art…

I generally start by laying out the colours I want to use, mixing colours so they are ready to go and getting my brushes ready. After turning up the sound on some music I get started. I love using music as it really allows you to get lost in the painting.

What mediums do you use and why?

I use acrylic paint as it is really fast to work with. I use a lot of layers in my work and like how quickly each layer drys so I can work on the next.

What are you working on now?

I’m currently working on a floral inspired piece, but I’m not sure where it will take me.

What are your recent career achievements you feel proud of?

As an artist who is relatively new to the scene I have been overwhelmed with the opportunities given to me to display my work and further my career

What do you love most about what you do?

I love the process of painting. To get lost in creating an artwork of pure expression is an amazing way to spend my days!

Where can you see yourself in 10 years time?

In 10 years I hope to be immersed in the world of art. I’m looking forward to the coming years to continue to build strong bodies of work that evolve and develop over time.
