Richard Barkman – Woodwork
Richard Barkman – Artist Statement
Richard came to Australia from Canada in 1968. He worked for two of the top architectural firms in Perth and was an associate in one of them when he retired. Apart from working in architecture, he had a part-time studio pottery for a number of years and taught pottery at Perth Technical College.
On retirement a life-long interest in wood and design led to woodturning as a means of personal expression and exploration of the uniqueness and beauty of Western Australian timbers. All his pieces utilize local materials and are individually hand crafted and signed.
His work has been shown and sold in Western Australia and overseas, including Canada, Great Britain, Netherlands, United States and Japan.
