Tony Docherty

Sculpture is a long term passion of Tony Docherty's, who is also well known as a professional designer maker of furniture and timber homewares. Recently Tony has turned his focus to making sculptures using salvaged Mallee Roots. Previously discarded and burnt by farmers after clearing the land, Mallee Roots are now prized for their stability and beautiful marbled grain which takes on a superb finish. By leaving remnants of the gnarled and weathered exterior, Tony's sculptures leave us with an historical reference while at the same time in other areas the brilliance of the timber underneath are brought to life.
